Upper Sespe Creek
Proposed Wild and Scenic River
A valuable watershed for Ventura County drinking water, Sespe Creek is at risk. Although lower Sespe Creek was protected in 1992, the wild and scenic quality of this lower stretch is currently threatened by upstream degradation from possible development, fishery destruction and diversion. The unprotected upper stretch of the Sespe is high quality fish habitat, providing both popular angling opportunities and quality spawning habitat for steelhead and rainbow trout. It is also home to the largest population of the endangered Arroyo toad, as well as the endangered California condor and the threatened red-legged frog and Southwestern Pond Turtle.
