San Gorgonio

Proposed Wilderness Additions

San GorgonioWith the addition of the desert and alpine units, the San Gorgonio Wilderness could become the most diverse wilderness in California, containing every ecosystem from the Colorado desert to the Alpine Zone, and ranging from 3000 feet to Mt San Gorgonio at 11,502. The Wildlands Conservancy manages 8400 acres of the desert unit as wilderness and it is adjacent to the San Gorgonio Wilderness Addition (BLM) created with the California Desert Protection Act of 1994. It contains some of the best habitat in Southern California for Nelson bighorn sheep, black bear, mule deer, and Southern spotted owl.
