Proposed Wilderness

This area has the largest acreage of high mountain meadows anywhere in the northern part of the western Sierra Nevada. The headwaters of the Upper Truckee River are located in this area and support the only population of genetically pure Lahontan cutthroat trout in the entire Lake Tahoe Basin. Further, this population is considered the best of the twelve remaining populations within the species' natural California range and the river contributes the largest source of clean water to Lake Tahoe.
