Proposed Wilderness Additions

Bighorn SheepThe additions would add critical lower elevation habitat to one of the most popular and visited Wilderness areas in the county, the John Muir Wilderness. The additions provide critical habitat for the federal Endangered Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep and important migratory and winter range for mule deer. The additions form the scenic backdrop to the Eastern Sierra escarpment, a vital part of the region’s tourist appeal and the watershed that supplies much of the Owens Valley and Los Angeles municipal drinking water.
