Wild Places

IshiIshi

Proposed Wilderness Study Area

This land of rugged canyons and mesas is drained by Deer, Mill and Antelope creeks, three of only five streams remaining in the northern Sierra Nevada and southern Cascades that still host populations of salmon and steelhead trout. The region is of unparalleled historical and cultural significance because it was the home of Ishi, the last Native American in California to live independently of Euro-American society.
