Heart Lake
Proposed Wilderness Area
Heart Lake is a paradise of ancient forest, verdant meadows, icy streams, and jewel-like lakes. It is situated on the western boundary of Lassen Volcanic National Park in the shadow of the majestic Brokeoff Mountain. Confirmed populations of the extremely rare, endangered Sierra Nevada red fox live both here and in the adjacent Park. The National Park Service believes that without such adjacent wild places, the Park could not support sensitive species like the red fox on its own.
