Hauser Mountain

Proposed Wilderness Additions

HauserThese additions provide a vital corridor for wildlife moving through and living in the Peninsular Ranges that connect Mexico and the Laguna Mountains to the north as well as protection for many sensitive animal and plant species. They occupy a remote area of moderate to low elevation chaparral and oak woodland habitats just north of the International Border, including 3,800-foot Hauser Mountain, South Hauser canyon, and the beautiful, oak/sycamore tree-lined Hauser, Cottonwood, and Pine Valley Creeks which supply water to Barrett Reservoir, an important link in San Diego’s local water supply. The Hauser Mountain Addition also protects a scenic wilderness landscape for the initial 20 miles of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail.
