Granite Mountain
Proposed Wilderness Area
A geologically varied landscape of open alluvial basins, basaltic plateaus and granite ridges, the distinctive mid-elevation sagebrush steppe habitat of Granite Mountain would make an excellent and unique addition to the National Wilderness Preservation System, in which the Great Basin is currently under-represented. This area contains important habitat for sage grouse and wild horses, as well as deer migration corridors and abundant raptor nesting areas.
