Eagle Peak
Proposed Wilderness Area
Protecting the largest wilderness proposal in San Diego County with five distinct units and two wild & scenic rivers is essential for preservation of our San Diego drinking water supply, sensitive species and habitats, and recreational opportunities in a pristine, dramatic, and scenic landscape. This proposal protects the entire upper watershed of the San Diego River, including the headwaters of the proposed 52-mile San Diego River Park, a newly proposed priority park led by many elected officials and citizens. The area is home to many sensitive species such as the arroyo southwestern toad, California gnatcatcher, two-striped garter snake, southwestern pond turtle, coast horned lizard, coastal rosy boa, and orange-throated whiptail, as well as sensitive habitats such as the oak and sycamore woodlands/riparian areas and the coastal sage scrub.
