Chumash
Proposed Wilderness Additions
Portions of the region are targeted for oil and gas exploration, as well as being threatened by off road vehicle use, making it one of the most threatened areas in the state. Designation of these areas would protect a vital link to recreate safe corridors for elk to migrate from the Windwolves Tule Elk conservation area through the Bittercreek Wildlife Refuge to Carizzo Plain National Monument, encompassing an elevation and ecosystem range from 600 feet up to 7495 feet. Several threatened and endangered species depend on these areas, including the California condor and the Intergrade Rubber Boa, a species that only occurs here.
