Castaic
Proposed Wilderness Area
Unique in its geographical location, the region connects the Coastal, Tehachapi and San Gabriel ranges. It remains the most remote portion of the Angeles National Forest, including both the largest remaining roadless area within the Angeles and an area that has been recommended as wilderness. Its long meandering canyons with steep vertical walls and year-round flowing streams provide a core regional watershed feeding Castaic Lake. There are several species of concern that depend on the area, including the endangered California condor, Arroyo Toad, the threatened California Red-legged frog, and the California Spotted Owl.
