Carrizo Gorge
Proposed Wilderness Additions
This area is essential for protecting the critical habitat for the seriously endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep. It includes several rugged, biologically and geographically sensitive canyons with native California fan palms and numerous springs and oases. This addition will protect the entire diverse habitat from the upper slopes at 4,000 ft. (mixed chaparral) to the middle portions of the canyons (desert transition plant), to the lower 2,000 ft. Sonoran Desert (desert habitat).
