Carol Wiley

Carol Wiley Carol Wiley has developed an intense passion and commitment to hiking, conservation, and restoration work. Carol first got involved in outdoor activities through a backpacking class at the Victor Valley College. The backpacking class lead to a bicycling class which then lead to a canoeing class. After that, she was officially hooked.

In order to continue these outdoor pursuits, Carol joined her local chapter of the Sierra Club. Throughout the years, Carol has served in leadership positions within these local chapters. Among other positions, Carol has served as a long-time chair of the Mojave Sierra Club group and as the awards chair for the San Gorgonio Chapter of the Sierra Club.

The California Desert Protection Act was Carol’s first foray into the world of conservation and she has been active in the conservation movement ever since. One of the ways Carol makes a difference in the movement is by educating others about the need for protecting our remaining wild places. She accomplishes this in a method the California Wild Heritage Campaign believes is one of the most compelling—leading hikes to local wild places. Carol loves leading these hikes and showing wilderness novices, first-hand, the beauty of these areas and the reasons why it’s so important that we protect them.

Carol spends time helping the Campaign in a multitude of other ways, as well. She regularly gathers signatures for petitions, distributes information at various events, and opens her house for presentations and meetings. She also coordinates outings to potential wilderness areas and continues to encourage others to get involved. In Carol’s free time, she is enjoying her retirement by traveling, spending time with her grandkids and summering in Idaho.

Carol has received several awards for volunteer work. She received a Recognition Award from the Mojave Group, a San Gorgonio Chapter of the Sierra Club Service Award, and recently The High Desert Environmental Farsight Award from the High Desert Conservation Coalition.

The California Wild Heritage Campaign would like to add to the accolades and thank Carol, and all of our volunteers across the state, for making a difference.
