Thompson bill will protect area

By Sarah Cumbie

Letter to the Editor - I was greatly encouraged to read that Rep. Thompson's North Coast wilderness bill might pass through Congress some time soon! ("Pushing those buttons,") I moved to Humboldt County because of its stunning natural beauty, and I believe that the region's wild character deserves to be protected. I was blown away by the King Range the first time I visted last August--the sweeping vistas, steep mountains rising right out of the ocean, seals barking on the rocky coast. I loved it so much I returned with my family to share our Thanksgiving dinner, and just last Tuesday stood atop King Peak and felt awe as I looked east toward the Trinity Alps and Mount Lassic. It is truly a magical place. Protecting it as wilderness will ensure that one day my grandkids can experience the same wonderous marvels. Rep. Thompson's bill is supported by a number of local politicians, as well as by many of the people I've met since moving here. I eagerly look forward to it passing in the near future.
