McKeon Wilderness bill a very positive turn of events

By Justin Black, General Manager/Curator, Mountain Light Photography

Letter to the Editor - I was very pleased to read your coverage of Congressman McKeon's leadership to protect the Eastern Sierra's majestic lands and waterways ("Inyo, Mono counties' lands and waterway tapped for protection," April 11, 2006). The legislation he has introduced is an outstanding example of a positive outcome borne from the willingness of local citizens to work together in a spirit of compromise and consensus in the pursuit of larger goals.

I applaud all the residents of Inyo and Mono counties who have participated in this process. The addition to the Hoover Wilderness in Mono County is an exceptional recreation destination for hiking, backcountry skiing, photography and angling, while the Amargosa River - the only river that runs into Death Valley - is truly a desert gem. I am very happy to know that both of these will be protected for future generations to enjoy.

Sincerely,

Justin Black, General Manager/Curator, Mountain Light Photography
